NZ PIF members to 2024 Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age Conference
Eligible PIF members from New Zealand are invited to apply for a sponsorship to attend the 2024 Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age Conference, being held at Chateau on the Park Christchurch, New Zealand from Wednesday 6 November to Friday 8 November 2024.
Eligible PIF members must be:
- A current or a new eligible PIF member from New Zealand.
- medical students or postgraduate year 1 and 2 doctors or postgraduate year 3+ doctors excluding those who are trainees and Fellows of another speciality.
Two (2) scholarship places are on offer and include:
Full Conference registration to the two-day program including conference dinner.
- Full Conference registration to the two-day program including conference dinner.
- Flights and/or travel costs to and from the Conference.
- Accommodation for 2 nights in Christchurch.
- Reimbursement for taxis or transport costs to and from the Christchurch airport.
Sponsorship recipients must attend the full program, starting from Wednesday 6 November to Friday 8 November 2024.
How to apply
Applicants are required to submit a written statement up to a maximum of 200 words addressing the eligibility criteria as follows:
- Your interest and/or involvement in psychiatry and mental health.
- Why you would like to attend this Conference.
- How attendance at this meeting may benefit and/or influence your psychiatry career aspirations.
Please note that entries over the max length indicated may not be considered by the selection panel.

Terms & conditions
Eligibility
Applicants must be:
- A current or a new eligible PIF member from New Zealand.
- Are able to arrange/take leave or make other arrangements to take part in the full Conference program and to be available to travel and attend the two-day in person event from 6-8 November 2024. Virtual attendance is not available for this conference.
Sponsorship recipients must attend the full Conference program from 6-8 November 2024.
Eligibility for the bursary will be assessed and is awarded at the discretion of the PIF Selection Panel.
Travel expenses
PIF members who have already registered for this Conference are eligible to apply for this sponsorship. and if successful, will be refunded their Conference registration and will receive financial support relating to their travel expenses (if required) as set out in these Terms and Conditions.
Travel expenses covered will include:
- Hotel accommodation for 2 nights (check-in 6 November 2024; check-out 8 November 2024) across the duration of the Conference at a hotel specified and organised by the RANZCP travel and conference organising agents on your behalf; and
- Return flights or road travel costs to Christchurch. Reimbursement of travel costs set at a maximum of $80 per trip to/from Christchurch airport to hotel.
Proof of receipts (e.g., taxis, airport shuttle) will be required as evidence to claim reimbursement to a capped value to be set by PIF. Any transport costs above the amount set out to the successful bursary recipient will not be paid for by PIF.
Travel costs related to commuting to/from Conference via public transport or private motor vehicle will be covered by their bursary. This request must be submitted as part of the application and will be assessed and accepted by RANZCP selection panel at its discretion. For road travel using a private motor vehicle, related commute costs to/from Conference including mileage, road tolls and parking costs will be covered.
Proof of receipts (e.g., parking, train or coach ticket) will be required as evidence to claim reimbursement.
All accommodation and flights must be booked via the dedicated RANZCP travel and conference organising agents.
Applicants acknowledge that:
- Incidental costs associated with travel and attendance at Conference, including additional baggage, will not be included and are the responsibility of the successful applicant.
- Any additional nights’ accommodation outside of the Conference dates are entirely the responsibility of the bursary recipient and will not be covered by the bursary grant.
- meals and other in-hotel entertainment or other expenses outside of the Conference program (e.g., minibar purchases, lunch or dinners) will not be covered by the bursary grant and must be paid for by the applicant incurring that cost.
Selection
The PIF Selection Panel will assess the applications based on the application criteria and determine the successful applicants. Decisions of the PIF Selection Panel are final.
Successful applicants will be notified via email by Tuesday, 15 October 2024 and are expected to confirm their acceptance of a bursary in writing by the required deadline. Bursary recipients are expected to obtain any necessary approvals or leave they require from their university, employer or similar in order to attend the full conference program.
The 2024 FPOA Conference program will be sent directly to the successful bursary recipients when notified by PIF on Wednesday,16 October 2024.
The PIF Selection Panel may award further bursaries, at a later time at its discretion.
Acceptance
In the event that a successful applicant is unable to attend, or a successful applicant does not communicate their acceptance of the bursary before the required deadline, the PIF Selection Panel may elect to award that bursary to another eligible applicant.
By accepting a bursary, the recipient provides their consent to the RANZCP to publicise the names of the successful applicants, their location and their university or workplace in RANZCP communications, including notifying a student’s university of the bursary award.
Photography and recording
Images and/or voices of attendees and bursary recipients may be recorded during the FPOA Conference program and in breaks for use in RANZCP website, communications, and media, including social media. If you do not wish for your image or voice to be publicised, please email pif@ranzcp.org.
Evaluation
All FPOA 2024 Conference PIF attendees will be required to participate in a compulsory evaluation activity as a condition of accepting the bursary.
Delegate Cancellation - Medical
The health and safety of conference attendees is our highest priority. The RANZCP is mindful of the health risks posed by COVID-19, and the importance of following official medical advice with respect to social distancing, practicing good hygiene and staying at home when unwell. The RANZCP requests that any delegate who is feeling unwell or has cold or flu like symptoms, or who may have been in contact with someone with COVID-19, not attend the conference.
If, on medical grounds, you are unable to attend the conference, you must contact the PIF Team in writing by email to pif@ranzcp.org.
Conference cancellation
The FPOA may cancel or postpone the Conference due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to Acts of God, terrorism, war, strikes or industrial action, fire, explosion, inevitable accident, breakdown of property, changes in law, or pandemics or global health crises. Due to the nature of the event, it may be reasonable to postpone the event to a later year and/or to change the location for the Conference. Any changes or postponement will be communicated to the sponsorship recipients.
Health and Safety Requirements
All participants at the conference will be required to comply with the Health and Safety Guidelines and protocols in place with the venue/s and the conference which will be aligned and compliant with all relevant Commonwealth and state government health advice at that time. By registering for this event, the RANZCP reserves the right to provide your contact details to authorities for the purposes of contact tracing and any other relevant government requirements. Details of any relevant protocols and requirements will be communicated to delegates who will be bound by these requirements.
Privacy Policy
The RANZCP will only collect personal information from individuals when it is reasonably necessary for the activities of the RANZCP, and all such collection will be subject to the RANZCP Privacy Policy and any other notifications.
