OnlineContinuing on from his previous webinar, Robert Kaplan will continue to address the second half of the 20th Century.
In the last century psychiatry changed from the incarceration of lunatics by ‘mad doctors’ to a modern scientific discipline accepted in mainstream medicine. Understanding the many changes along the way is essential to deal with the current problems that are encountered in practice.
In this webinar, Associate Professor Rob Kaplan will address:
1. The role of history of psychiatry in training
2. The role of social and cultural factors in medicine
3. How controversies change practice.
Robert Kaplan is a forensic psychiatrist, writer and historian. He has positions at University of Wollongong, Western Sydney University, University of NSW and is Research Associate (history) at Stellenbosch University. He has written about Helen Flanders Dunbar, the mother of psychosomatic medicine and his book Promise Unfulfilled: The Life of Mary Barkas, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst is in press.
This webinar is available to RANZCP members, trainees and PIF.
