OSCE Subcommittee

The Objective Structured Clinical Exam Subcommittee plans, develops and administers the OSCE examination for psychiatrists in Australia and New Zealand. It authors the examination content and assessment domains and determines the standard of the examination.

The subcommittee relies on its members’ valuable contribution to uphold the expected standard the examination.

Responsibilities of the subcommittee

• Actively participate in the development of each examination – subcommittee members are expected to be the first author of at least one station per year.
• Meet strict deadlines in the writing and submission of stations for peer vetting and review by Chair and Deputy Chair.
• Provide timely review and feedback to other station writers within a buddy system.
• Participate in feedback and review of station performance.
• Contribute to evaluating the reliability and validity of the OSCE.
• Provide feedback on the examination process and overall candidate performance to assist the Committee for Examinations in writing the examination report following each examination.
• Attend meetings, writing workshops and teleconferences of the subcommittee, as and when required.
• Attend and participate in standard setting and calibration exercises for written and clinical examinations as required by the Committee for Examinations (this will usually involve two face-to-face meetings in Melbourne each year).

Member commitment required

Members’ term of office is for two (2) x three (3) year terms.

The OSCE Subcommittee meets four (4) times per annum, usually in the months of February, April, July and September.
