The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) notes the sentence of Victorian psychiatrist Dr Robert Proctor.
RANZCP has a zero-tolerance policy to boundary violations such as these, which have no place in mental health care.
The RANZCP Code of Ethics states that ‘psychiatrists shall not exploit patients physically, sexually, emotionally or financially,’ and that ‘Sexual relationships between psychiatrists and their current and former patients are always unethical.’
The RANZCP recognises the significant hurt and trauma which these events cause individuals and their families, and we hope they are being supported appropriately.
For more information please see the RANZCP Code of Ethics.
