Chair, Victorian Branch: Associate Professor Richard Newton
Richard is the Clinical Director of Peninsula Health Mental Health Service. Peninsula Mental Health is a large mental health service based in a teaching hospital. It has a range of Adult and Aged mental health services. He is also a consultant adult psychiatrist within the service. He is strongly committed to Quality and Safety systems in MH, consumer and carer participation in Mental Health Service development and the provision of safe effective evidence based interventions for all members of the community in need of mental health care. He is a Board Member of the Butterfly Foundation and an alumnus of the Williamson Community Leadership programme. He has had a number of roles within RANZCP including Chair, Fellowships Attainment Committee and is currently Chair of the Victorian Branch.
He is a surveyor with ACHS, an Editorial Board member of national and international academic journals and sits on numerous federal and state based planning or advisory committees. He has published more than 50 peer reviewed articles or book chapters on a range of topics including CBT, treatment of psychosis, eating disorders, psychosocial interventions in mental health services, health service redesign, and homelessness. He teaches a Masters level course in Structured Psychotherapy at the University of Melbourne and an Advanced Training course in CBT accredited for RANZCP AT in Psychotherapy.
He trained in Edinburgh, Scotland, completing CBT training in The Cullen Centre, Edinburgh, and came to Australia in 1992. He continues to promote the training of all mental health clinicians in the use of structured psychotherapies providing a Masters level course on Structured psychotherapy through Melbourne University and the accredited advanced training programme in CBT for the RANZCP advanced certificate in psychotherapy.

Victorian Branch Family Violence Roundtable
The Victorian Branch’s Family Violence Working Group held a cross sector roundtable in Melbourne on 27 February. Guest speakers included the Victorian Family Violence Prevention Minister Fiona Richardson and Australian of the Year Rosie Batty.

Mental Health Tribunal performance indicators for the first quarter of 2014-2015
The Mental Health Tribunal (MHT) has committed to publishing its performance against its key performance indicators (KPIs) on a quarterly basis. The second quarter (October - December) results are now available on the MHT website.
The Tribunal is now in its seventh month of operation. Techniques to assess the key activities of the Tribunal will develop over time, and lead to the identification of performance improvement initiatives. The Tribunal is committed to reviewing its KPIs annually.

Victorian WorkCover Authority and TAC Certificate of Capacity
The combined VWA and TAC Certificate of Capacity will replace all previous versions as of 1 March 2015.
Since its launch on 1 July 2014, the TAC and VWA have worked to ensure the Certificate is available in a variety of formats including smartform and as a supplied template in common clinical software packages used by general practice and specialists. Support materials such as user guides, e-learning modules and Frequently Asked Questions are also available and can be accessed via the VWA website.

New Australian Institute of Health and Welfare mental health reports
Several new reports on mental health services in Australia have been released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW):
