Practice Guidelines assist psychiatrists in relation to broad parameters of practice in particular areas of psychiatry.  They are based on a set of principles that are readily applied and that are comparable with professionally recognised standards. They guidelines build on past experience to add value to future activities and allow the psychiatrists to be innovative, efficient, and effective in the way they carry out their work.
