The Private Practitioners Network becomes a Special Interest Group!

The Private Practitioners Networks (PPN) application to General Council for Special Interest Group (SIG) status was approved GC2011/3 August 2011.  Becoming a SIG brings PPN’s governance structure into line with College requirements with regulations, facilitates financial governance and declares PPN to be a permanent group to oversee and advocate private practice issues within the College. This should improve the PPN’s ability to develop projects, progress important issues and advocate on behalf of private practitioners.

History of the PPN

The Private Practitioners Network (PPN) was first established at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) Congress in Brisbane in 2002 as a forum to examine, support and further the processes that lead to high clinical standards, professionalism, mutual support and job satisfaction for those psychiatrists working in the private sector. Survey of all College Fellows

The August 2010 PPN survey was initiated to identify priority areas for action and strategies to pursue that best represent the needs of private practitioners.

As the PPN is moving towards a substantial workplan, and the potential for significant membership, the report outlines considerations on the strategic management of the RANZCP Private Practitioners Network (PPN) and to help frame initial directions for activity for the coming two years.
