The Section of Forensic Psychiatry was established to:
  • Promote the objects of the College (as stated in the Constitution) with particular reference to the area of forensic psychiatry;
  • Assist the College in its stated objectives in the field of education in psychiatry, specifically by its interest and expertise in forensic psychiatry;
  • Promote discussion and co-operation among members of the College, with particular reference to their special interest area, forensic psychiatry;
  • Promote discussion between members and the general public on matters pertaining to forensic psychiatry;
  • Cooperate, where appropriate, with Faculties, Sections, Committees and other bodies within the College and with societies and associations outside the College whose interests are compatible with those of the Section;
  • Interest and educate the public in questions of forensic psychiatry, to propagate an understanding of those issues and to counter and correct misinformation in the area;
  • Facilitate research in forensic psychiatry;
  • Encourage the training of psychiatrists in those aspects of psychiatry relevant to forensic psychiatry;
  • Facilitate the further training of forensic psychiatrists.
