** NEW ** We are pleased to announce the addition of a half day workshop for advanced trainees to be held on the morning of Saturday 13th of November.

Invitation from the Convenor

One of the great things about working in a small state is that it is relatively easy to share discussions, ideas and challenges with colleagues working across different areas of aged care. Whether it be finding out about the latest in nerve cell regeneration research, participating in the shaping of mental health legislation, planning the most effective education packages for those caring for older people or getting practical advice about complex medical problems, all these things play a vital role in providing good care to our patients; - vital steps towards a common goal. Our meeting draws together experts from across various disciplines to reflect this.

Hobart is a vibrant, friendly city. Our state has great restaurants, wineries, fascinating history and  world renowned natural beauty.

I look forward to welcoming you to our meeting and to sharing with you both the diverse scientific programme and the rich tastes of Tasmania.

Sunshine on convict-chipped stone, whitecaps riffling the breezy river, the twinkle of lights in the branches of Salamanca's plane trees, a spectrum of fine flavours from southern Tasmania's wonderful food and wine are just some of the things that make Hobart an idyllic location.

Hobart's City Centre is a great place to shop - easy to park, easy to get around and a wide range of shopping options from designer boutiques to major chains.

Seafood is a Hobart specialty - Hobart chefs delight in using the best of fresh-caught scalefish, shellfish and crustaceans.

Hobart is handy to a host of acclaimed cool-climate vineyards. Joining a winery tour from Hobart means that you can enjoy your tastings and let someone else take the wheel.

Call for Abstract Submissions

Abstract submissions are now closed. Authors will be notified of acceptance on Monday 30th August 2010.

Papers submitted should be relevant to clinical practice with older adults across a range of settings; research intimately linked with applied practice; teaching and mentoring of students who wish to work with older adults.

Types of Submissions Sought

There are three types of sessions to choose from. You can select whether you want to submit your abstract as a Workshop, as part of a Symposium or as a standalone Scientific or Clinical report (free paper). A description of these terms and how to submit your abstract are listed below. You may also submit your abstract as a poster.

Workshop:  Workshops are not long lectures. We expect workshops to involve some activity apart from listening to someone talk. Interaction should involve more than questions and answers. Presenters are expected to describe what techniques they will use, such as role play or small group discussion, in their abstract. A minimum of a third of the time should be devoted to active interaction. To submit an abstract for a workshop complete the usual abstract, stating it is a workshop but add a note stating whether you want the workshop to last for 90 minutes, half a day or all day.

Symposium:  Symposia are collections of presentations or discussions on a particular topic usually lasting for 90 minutes or three hours. For each symposium we would like two types of abstract. The first is from the proposer and chair of the symposium who should submit an abstract for the whole session outlining the number of papers, who will be presenting them, an optional formal discussant and the amount of time allocated for audience discussion. Secondly each presenter within a symposium should also complete an abstract for their individual presentation, which includes in brackets as part of the title which symposium the abstract belongs to. (For example, "An open trial of computerised therapy in agoraphobia" (E-therapy symposium)).
Scientific and clinical reports:  These are single stand alone presentations usually presented with other scientific and clinic reports with a chairperson selected by the Scientific Advisory Committee. To submit a Scientific or Clinical Report follow the abstract instructions.

Posters: These will be part of the poster section of the conference unless otherwise requested.

All abstracts must be submitted via email to Fpoa.abstracts@ranzcp.org  as an MS-word document attachment (.doc or .docx). Submissions must follow the instructions below and use the template provided.
