Section of Addiction Psychiatry
The Section of Addiction Psychiatry was established to: 

  • improve the standard of knowledge and skills, and promote appropriate attitudes, concerning alcohol and other drug problems, and problem gambling amongst the Fellows of the College
  • enable the College to play an effective role in the development of community policies and programs concerning alcohol and other drug problems and problem gambling
  • encourage Fellows to play a leading role in education, training, research, and service delivery concerning alcohol and other drug problems and problem gambling, in cooperative association with persons of other disciplines.
 

Section of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
The Section of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry was established to:

  • promote the objects of the College (as stated in the memorandum and Articles of Association) with particular reference to the area of consultation-liaison psychiatry
  • promote and encourage the study of consultation-liaison psychiatry in all its aspects by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge
  • promote and encourage the highest theoretical, practical and ethical standards in the delivery of consultation-liaison psychiatry services
  • promote and encourage training in consultation-liaison psychiatry of the highest standard for trainee psychiatrists, medical undergraduates and students of related mental health professions
  • promote and facilitate research in consultation-liaison psychiatry
  • liaise and cooperate with societies and associations outside the College in the study and practice of consultation-liaison psychiatry
  • assist the College in the preparation of position statements and other memoranda on consultation-liaison psychiatry
  • interest and inform the general community concerning consultation-liaison psychiatry, and particularly to promote a clear understanding of the subject.
Section of Forensic Psychiatry
The Section of Forensic Psychiatry was established to:
  • promote the objects of the College (as stated in the memorandum and Articles of Association) with particular reference to the area of forensic psychiatry
  • assist the College in its stated objectives in the field of education in psychiatry, specifically by its interest and expertise in forensic psychiatry
  • promote discussion and co-operation among members of the College, with particular reference to their special interest area, forensic psychiatry
  • promote discussion between members and the general public on matters pertaining to forensic psychiatry
  • cooperate, where appropriate, with Faculties, Sections, Committees and other bodies within the College and with societies and associations outside the College whose interests are compatible with those of the Section
  • interest and educate the public in questions of forensic psychiatry, to propagate an understanding of those issues and to counter and correct misinformation in the area
  • facilitate research in forensic psychiatry
  • encourage the training of psychiatrists in those aspects of psychiatry relevant to forensic psychiatry
  • facilitate the further training of forensic psychiatrists.

Section of Neuropsychiatry
The Section of Neuropsychiatry was established to:

  • promote the objectives of the College as stated in the Memorandum and Articles of Association with particular reference to the discipline of Neuropsychiatry.
  • promote the development of the clinical discipline of Neuropsychiatry within Australia and New Zealand.
  • promote high-quality training and teaching within the discipline of Neuropsychiatry.
  • promote educational activities within the area of Neuropsychiatry at regional Branch and binational levels.
  • promote and facilitate research in the discipline of Neuropsychiatry.
  • assist the College in preparation of position statements and any other material relevant to the practice of Neuropsychiatry.
  • facilitate links with other Neuropsychiatry bodies at an international level, for example the International Neuropsychiatric Association.
  • facilitate awareness of Neuropsychiatry and topics of relevance to the general community.

Section of Psychotherapy
The Section of Psychotherapy was established to:

  • promote the objects of the College (as stated in the memorandum and Articles of Association) with particular reference to the area of psychotherapy
  • promote and encourage the study of psychotherapy in all its aspects by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge
  • promote and encourage the highest theoretical, practical and ethical standards in the delivery of psychotherapy services
  • promote and encourage training in psychotherapy of the highest standard for trainee psychiatrists, medical undergraduates and students of related mental health professions
  • promote and facilitate research in psychotherapy
  • liaise and cooperate with societies and associations outside the College in the study and practice of psychotherapy
  • assist the College in the preparation of position statements and other memoranda on psychotherapy
  • interest and inform the general community concerning psychotherapy, and particularly to promote a clear understanding of the subject
Section of Social and Cultural Psychiatry

The Section of Social and Cultural Psychiatry was established to:

  • promote discussion within and without the College amongst those interested in social and cultural psychiatry
  • hold an annual scientific meeting on aspects of social and cultural psychiatry open to all members of the College.
