The Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists was incorporated on 28 October 1963 by The Australasian Association of Psychiatrists (founded in  October 1946).

The College was granted the prefix Royal on 9 May 1977 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1996.

An official history, ‘Menders of the Mind’, was published by Oxford University Press to commemorate our 50th anniversary.
