The vision of the RANZCP is ‘a fellowship of psychiatrists working with and for the general community to achieve the best attainable quality of psychiatric care and mental health.’ In working toward this vision, it is important to constantly define what a quality system looks like and ensure it has appropriate safety measures in place.
Defining quality and safety is difficult. Health care structures are complex adaptive systems. Complex adaptive systems learn and change over time, and are comprised of a number of interconnected, yet independent, elements. Therefore, creating a system geared toward quality and safety is a ongoing challenge.
RANZCP is committed to advising governments and producing policy and guidance that assists in defining and working toward a safe, high quality mental health system.
