The purpose of the Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry is to promote discussion and co-operation among members of the College and the general public in the area of forensic psychiatry.
The Faculty’s overarching functions are to:

Promote the objectivess of the College (as stated in the Constitution) with particular reference to the area of forensic psychiatry;

Promote and encourage the study of forensic psychiatry in all its aspects by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge;

Promote and encourage the highest clinical and ethical standards in the delivery of forensic psychiatry services;

Work with the Board of Education to establish training programs in forensic psychiatry for trainee psychiatrists and psychiatrists;

Work with the Board of Education to accredit training programs in forensic psychiatry for trainee psychiatrists and psychiatrists in accordance with College policy and delegation;

Promote and encourage development of knowledge and practice in forensic psychiatry, of the highest standard, for psychiatrists, trainee psychiatrists, medical students, related health professionals, students of related health professions, other medical practitioners and involved legal practitioners;

Promote and facilitate research in forensic psychiatry, and disseminate the findings;

Liaise and co-operate with societies and associations outside the College in the study and practice of forensic psychiatry;

Assist the College in the preparation of position statements and other memoranda on forensic psychiatry;

Interest and inform the general community concerning forensic psychiatry, and particularly to promote a clear understanding of the subject.
