The Research and Education Foundation of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists was approved by General Council in November 2006. Its intention is to provide high quality training in research, and to better assist people with mental health problems to have improved outcomes and improved quality of life.
The Foundation fosters scholarship, research, leadership and training in psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand. To do this, the aim of the Foundation is to build up an investment portfolio so that there may be annual distribution from interest earned to RANZCP Fellows, trainees and affiliates who need support in research or educational endeavors in an ongoing and sustainable manner.
The College’s plan in relation to the Foundation is to continue building up funding reserves, to investigate a variety of funding avenues, and to further develop the Foundation’s strategic direction and define the many specific ways in which it can foster psychiatry training and research in Australia and New Zealand.
The College already supports trainees’ research via annual ‘New Investigator Grants’ and is hopeful that, in time, the Foundation will allow for a much greater expansion of this sort of activity for the benefit of RANZCP Fellows, trainees and affiliates.
The Foundation welcomes donations from all Fellows and other external groups or persons with an interest in promoting research within the field of psychiatry. The Foundation is also grateful to receive bequests for general or special research purposes. Intending benefactors are invited to discuss terms and conditions with the Foundation to ensure that their proposed gifts will be applied in a way most suited to their wishes. Donations can be kept anonymous should donors wish.
We hope that you will consider supporting the Research and Education Foundation.
